Game Day: Giants at Packers

Well here I am, 8 hours til kick-off, sitting next to my Packers helmet on a cozy couch in a warm apartment in Giants territory instead of tailgating in balmy single-digit conditions in Green Bay. I'm glued to the coverage, and particularly pleased with the fact that the sports media is largely focusing on the NFC match-up instead of endlessly banging on about boring Brady and the perfect—oh except for that cheating stuff—season.
Hollywood couldn't have scripted it better (especially with the writers on strike):
-The legendary old gun-slinging quarterback, whose retirement has been the cause of speculation for years now, playing better than ever and systematically breaking records.
-The pack of mostly unknown youngsters putting up astonishing numbers (and to think, early this season Favre was lamenting the Packers' decision not to take Randy Moss).
-The much-maligned underdog quarterback, who turned his team's season around and led them through two upset playoff victories to prove that maybe, just maybe, it's not his last name that got him and keeps him in his job.
-Nobody thought the Giants would get here to begin with, and now they are attempting to be the first NFC team to win three playoff games on the road.
-The scene will unfold at the greatest venue in the league, with temperatures dropping below zero *on the thermometer.* Never mind the windchill.

Two unlikely teams. All kinds of history on the line. And one damn cold tundra.

With my favorites facing my hometown team, I can't help but write my own script for today's contest. I want a game for the ages. Big numbers throwing and running, big hits on D. Maybe a broken record or two. Plays that get their own names and Wikipedia entries. I want a battle that yields a Packer victory, but with a Giants performance that all of New York (and the rest of the Mannings) can be proud of. And while I'm at it, I want the Packers to destroy the Patriots on February 3rd. Is that so much to ask?
